"We are not what happened to us, we are what we wish to become"

Carl Gustav Jung

More about my approach

Person-Centred and Humanistic

I acknowledge you as the expert in your own life, which means that you're in control of your own therapy, including body-oriented psychotherapy. You’ll learn more about yourself and develop a trust in your own capacities to change through person-centred therapy. Change is not forced or aimed for, but instead, given the space to unfold naturally as you come to know and accept yourself - just as you are right now. You’ll be encouraged to develop an awareness of your moment to moment experiences and the subtle ways you respond to your environment. This all makes space for growth to occur naturally in the context of a safe and supportive relationship with me, drawing on principles of transpersonal psychology.

My role is not to fix things, but to enter into your world and ‘be’ with you. I will deeply attune to your experiences without judgement, as you grapple with the inevitable realities of life, including death, loss, and isolation.

Body-oriented Psychotherapy

Have you experienced early trauma? Trauma can impact the way you relate to your body and often leads to dysregulation of your nervous system. This dysregulation prevents you from recognizing and regulating your emotions, which may affect your ability to develop lasting and healthy relationships. Your earliest memories are held implicitly in your body. If your early environment was not experienced as safe, warm, and attuned, your body may have become frozen with trauma, causing you to 'split off' from parts of yourself in order to survive.

Through body-oriented psychotherapy, you’ll work on developing a new relationship with your body. I'll help you practice mindful attention so you can attune to what your body is saying. You’ll build trust in your body, listen to its wisdom, and connect more deeply to what’s needed in any given situation. In our sessions, I may use movement exercises inspired by person-centred therapy to release the trauma that has been held unconsciously in the body.

These techniques are gentle yet powerful, often leading to the expression of emotions and memories that have been contained for many years. You’ll start to unlock parts of yourself that have been forgotten or rejected and release yourself from fixed ways of relating to the world.

Like many people, you may have forgotten what it's like to just 'be' yourself and experience the pleasure of being alive. As you become more connected with your body, you’ll develop the capacity to tolerate more discomfort. As a result, you’ll feel more alive, present, and connected to who you really are. By integrating elements of transpersonal psychology, you’ll find it easier to develop and maintain healthy relationships and move towards a more authentic life.

Relational

Relational work is dynamic and transformative. Through an open and authentic dialogue in the 'here and now' of therapy, including approaches like body-oriented psychotherapy and person-centred therapy, you’ll be able to connect the past to current patterns of relating. The relationship with your therapist becomes healing in itself, providing a new lived experience of warm and non-judgemental contact, which is a key aspect of transpersonal psychology.

Together, we’ll work on the relationship you have with yourself, as well as those you have with the people around you. Think of the therapy room as a ‘laboratory’ or safe space where you can test things out with me, your therapist, before taking and trying them out in the outside world.

Transpersonal Psychology and Spirituality

I welcome all spiritual and religious beliefs in the therapy room, incorporating elements of body-oriented psychotherapy and person-centred therapy. Your spiritual journey is deeply personal and will be nurtured as part of this process. I’ll work with you to reveal the language of the soul and uncover what's hidden in the unconscious, which may involve exploring the meaning of your dreams and how you express yourself creatively. I value and recognize the potential for transformative change when psychological work, including transpersonal psychology, and spiritual growth are combined. Working with these aspects together leads to a more meaningful and enriching life.
